The title of this article was chosen tongue in cheek, but this topic and situation are no joking matter. Unfortunately, every time we have a senseless shooting, as we did on the streets of New York City, the Democrats go into the same talk track they always revert to and blame the gun for the shooting and downplay the shooter and the mental health issues that brought him, or her, to this point with a deadly weapon intent on killing innocent human beings. These people are fools and political mouthpieces who are quick to speak and slow to act. New York will bury its dead this week, and these politicians will go back into their reelection routines, and you will hear nothing about mental health proposals until the next incident, and there will be one.
I heard two other crime-related comments from Democrats this week who showed how disconnected and disingenuous they are, but boy, do they love a microphone.
Rahm Emanuel is an American politician, advisor, diplomat, and former investment banker who most recently served as United States ambassador to Japan from 2022 to 2025. A member of the Democratic Party, he represented Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives for three terms from 2003 to 2009. He was the White House chief of staff from 2009 to 2010 under President Barack Obama and served as mayor of Chicago from 2011 to 2019. He is considered a candidate for President in 2028. Emanuel was on the Megyn Kelly Podcast and was trying to say that Democrat led cities like Chicago and Los Angeles are experiencing a decrease in crime due to Democrat policies. This lie has been debunked for years, and I was disappointed that Kelly let him get away with it. Of course, crime is down if you do not arrest, charge, and try people who commit crimes. Emanuel had many policies that showed he would be a move back towards the center if elected, but this lie was enough to overshadow all else. Sorry, Rahm, you blew it.
Senator Jeanne Shaheen is my senior Senator from New Hampshire. Fortunately, she has already declared that this will be her last term in Washington. She commented in committee that, for the first time in years, we are seeing a decline in drug-related deaths and credited the success to the availability of Narcan. That is about as ludicrous and shortsighted as saying the incidence of STDs in the Villages is dropping because the government is giving all residents free condoms! Shaheen, and nearly all Democrats were silent for four years of Biden’s open borders when Fentanyl was flowing into our country and killing 80,000 Americans yearly. Now that President Trump has effectively closed the border, perhaps the Senator should take a healthy dose of humble pie and acknowledge the shortcomings of the Biden border policies she supported. President Trump has corrected those failings in just six months. Maybe these Democrats need to look at issues through the commonsense eyes of the American people and think more and speak less,
