Cancer Punched Me Right In My Esophagus

Personal Journey Entry # 29

Well, it seemed too good to be true, and it was. After my visit with Dr. Boston, we thought we had gotten all of the cancer and we were done. We celebrated, but I think we knew down deep that there was more to come, and when the pathology report hit my patient portal, I knew I was not finished with this fight. The euphoria we felt for the last week has turned numb. The cancer cells had dug into the mucous layer, and there were no margins at the bottom of the specimen. These results mean that the cancer probably escaped the esophagus and traveled into the muscular lining. This means we have work to do, so roll up the sleeves, and let’s get to it.

I am waiting for a call from my Oncologist, and I am already scheduled to see one of my surgeons on Wednesday. I am prepared to start chemo and radiation, and I hope that will eradicate the remaining cancer and eliminate the need to remove my esophagus. There is still a possibility of Dr. Boston going back in with her endoscopic wand and digging up some more of the cancerous cells. There are way too many options for me to wrap my head around today. Take a breath, and see what the Dream Team wants to do. I think they will have more answers than I do
