Hakeem, Meltdown Is Not Leadership

By Ray Cardello for July 6, 2025, Season 31 / Post 43

People will die. Hundreds of people will die. Thousands of people will die. Thank goodness they stopped before they reached millions, as nobody would believe that hyperbole. According to Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), she could not make her way through an airport without people coming up to her so distressed by the Big Beautiful Bill, that they could only put their heads on the congresswoman’s shoulder and thank her for her efforts to stop the bill. We have seen enough video of Jayapal to know that nobody goes near her for fear of being whacked by the easily angered representative.

Sandy Cortez (D-NY), who is the leader of The Squad, which has defined the Radical Left wing of the Party, has found a new Leftist to latch onto in Zohran Mamdani. Mamdani is a self-declared Democrat Socialist, but his views are pure Communist. Cortez has found a path further left. She calls the BBB a “Deal with the devil,” and a theft of American dignity by billionaires. Not very original, and maybe why Trump questions the intelligence of the former bartender turned congresswoman.

Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) calls the BBB a “Republican Robin Hood in Reverse.” This interesting comment comes from a woman who bragged during the COVID-19 pandemic about her supply of expensive ice cream in the freezer of her luxurious home in San Francisco, surrounded by a wall to keep the commoners out.

And then, there is Hakeem Jeffries, the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives. Jeffries is completely lacking in charisma, and with his halting speech delivery, is more likely to lull you to sleep than motivate you into action. He is a prototypical Trump hater, but rather than come up with an alternate plan to get America on track, he has opted for a House version of a Senate filibuster. The House does not have a provision for a member to get the floor and microphone, and channel Corey Booker for twenty-plus hours in the House chamber, but he did manage to hold the floor for six hours. The sole purpose of the lengthy oration was to delay the House vote on the Senate-revised Big Beautiful Bill. There was no positivity in the speech, just 360 minutes of anti-Trump rhetoric. There was no intention that this speech would change the inevitable outcome of the bill. It was an attention-getter and time-waster. If this was Jeffries’s attempt at House immortality, he failed. This stunt was just another example of the lack of leadership in the Democrat Party. This is a sad time in Democrat history and for American politics.

America needs a strong two-party system of government. There is a need for a balance between the conservative Right and the liberal Left for the government to work for all Americans. As it stands, we oscillate between the Left being happy and then the Right, but never both sides concurrently. Donald Trump has molded the Republican Party in his image since he rode the golden escalator in 2015. There is no such leader in the Democrat Party. The Democrats need a leader, and it cannot be Cortez or Jeffries. They are dividers, not leaders. The current crop of Democrats has shown they are verbal reactors, not legislators, and certainly not leaders. Meltdowns for the camera or hours-long demonstrations for the media are not going to get the Democrats back to even par with their counterparts across the aisle. That is good for the GOP, but not necessarily for the USA.
