Cory Booker (D-NJ) might be the only Democrat disappointed in the death of the Senate filibuster. Only the dramatic showman, like Booker, who loved the marathon speaking sessions he employed under the current filibuster rules. He rightly may be a party of one, as you would be hard pressed to find anyone in the Senate who ever listened to his marathon dribble.

President Trump and Vice President Vance both came out in favor of retiring the filibuster, and the vote was taken Sunday night, with the group of eight Democratic Senators crossing the aisle to vote yes on the procedural vote to do away with the two-thirds majority requirement to pass a piece of legislation through the Senate. Some of the old-timers (pre-Harry Reid) are not happy with this rule change, which now makes the Senate, along with the House, only need a simple majority to affirm a vote.

This is a crucial decision with long-term ramifications. The Democrats’ eyes must have lit up like a kid on Christmas morning, and they cannot wait until they have the majority and can force through a litany of bills that never would have passed with the super-majority vote needed. Let’s look at a few to show why I am not in agreement with the President and Vice President on this issue.

1. Make Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C., the 51st and 52nd states. This has been on the Democrat wish list for no reason other than to gain 4 Senators and probably 5 Representatives on their side of the aisle. It is a given that these two states would be solid Blue.
2. They will pack the Supreme Court, adding probably six more justices. Democrats have not been happy with the current Conservative leaning bench and know that adding six liberal judges will impact the Court for decades,
3. Federalize Elections. Elections are currently the responsibility of each state, which makes it difficult to influence in your favor. If brought under the Federal umbrella, absentee ballots, longer voting periods, no IDs, and electronic voting will be the rule in all states.
4. The voting age would be lowered to 16. This significant change has been a Democrat desire for years, and with the indoctrination of school-age voters, this new young block of voters will undoubtedly be a plus for the Democrats.
5. Illegal Aliens will be allowed to vote. They already are in some local elections, and these would presumably be Democratic votes in the future.
6. The Electoral College would go the way of the Senate Filibuster. The Democrats have wanted the election for President to be a popular vote for years. Trump winning the popular vote in 2024 was the first time in over twenty years for a Republican candidate. The popular vote would assure a Democrat stronghold on the White House.

That is just a quick list off the top of my head. It is not hyperbole to say the political landscape will be changed forever should we allow the Senate to end the Super-majority. The only thing we can hope for is that with their current shift even further to the Left, the American voters will never give them the majority. That may be just wishful thinking.
