Skip the Bandaid, Our Country Needs a Prayer

By Ray Cardello for September 13, 2025, Season 32 / Post 37

The Left and Right cannot agree on whether it is day or night, but if there is one thing both sides can agree on, it is that this country is broken. Call it fractured, divided, polarized, or any other adjective you can conjure up; it is broken. We are well past civil discourse, and you only need to look at a recent report out of Rutgers University to see how far we have fallen:

The report states that 55% of respondents who viewed themselves as left-of-center said the murder of Trump could be somewhat justified; 48% said the same of Elon Musk. Among all respondents, 38% said it would be somewhat justified if Trump were assassinated, while 31% said the same about Musk.

To be clear, these people are condoning the actual assassination of political foes because of their political philosophies. You have to ask where this insanity comes from and how we get these numbers down to zero, which is the only civilized answer that is appropriate. I think you can examine how each side responded to a tragedy as the genesis of the problem.

George Floyd died in 2020 while being arrested in Minneapolis. Floyd was a career criminal and drug user, yet his death, presumed to be at the hands of a white cop, set off national riots and destruction of many liberal cities, in what was called the Summer of Love. The George Floyd protests continued for much of the summer, helping to raise Black Lives Matter to new heights of political power. In the following years, the Floyd scenario has collapsed like a house of cards, but the damage to many cities will take years to correct. The Left showed their true colors of violence as a means of communicating.

Charlie Kirk was assassinated this week, and prayer vigils and moments of silence have broken out, not just in America, but around the globe. There have been no riots, takeovers, or destruction of police precincts. The response to Kirk’s death mirrors the way that Charlie lived: peacefully while using dialogue and debate instead of rocks and bottles to spread the word of the Right. In a beautiful and moving speech by Charlie’s wife, Erika, she did not call for violence or retribution for her husband’s murder. She called for people of all ages to get involved and to spread the words that Charie lived by. She claimed that Charlie died with the golden crown of a martyr on his head, and that the people who reveled in Charlie’s death had no idea of the powerstorm that they had created.

Rocks, bottles, and destruction from the Left. Prayer, silence, and promise from the Right. Which do you see as a threat to our Democracy?

As an example of how twisted the Left has become, a site was created to chronicle the sick responses to Charlie Kirk’s killing from the Left. The site, Expose Charlie’s Murderers, already has 20,000 examples of the pure hatred that flooded the internet as the Left saw joy in another man’s death. Our world is indeed broken, and as Charlie professed, it will stay broken until we start talking across ideological lines. Personally, I am not yet ready for dialogue. I am far too angry at the damage the Left has done to our great country. I need to get past that. We all do. It has taken decades of indoctrination by the Left’s machine to get us to this point; we cannot afford decades to fix it. One thing is clear. It will take the Right to take the first step, for the Left is too busy picking up their next stone.
