Sorry, Joe Rogan. I Have To Do Saturday Night Live

By Ray Cardello for November 4, 2024, Season 29 / Post 31

Over the last two weeks, we have seen two three-hour conversations on the Joe Rogan Experience with Former President Donald Trump and JD Vance. The Rogan podcast is the highest-rated streaming show that anyone of relevance would want to appear to get their thoughts and views to the masses. The Rogan-Trump show had over 30 million hits in just 3 days. Three hours of candid conversation allows for in-depth conversation well beyond the typical sound bite. In some cases, this can be a blessing or a death wish. In the case of Trump and Vance, these men could talk for hours off the cuff about a plethora of topics. The Rogan format would be a nightmare for someone who must be programmed with carefully prepared, vague answers to pre-approved questions that are read off a teleprompter. Enter Kamala Harris.

Joe Rogan invited Kamala Harris to a lengthy conversation. Supposedly, the Rogan and Harris teams had been negotiating for weeks over terms that the Vice President could live with to appear. There was talk about the timeframe, location, and available dates. Harris even wanted Rogan to meet her on the road rather than in his studio in Austin, Texas. She eventually declined the offer, citing no time available in her busy campaign schedule. The irony is that she never intended to appear, never said anything about her VP schedule, and was in Texas during this period and could have easily appeared on the show. She could have easily appeared, but she would have easily exposed her shortcomings to millions. How many times can you tell the middle-class story in three hours?

In true hypocritical fashion, the Vice President had no difficulty making time for an appearance on Saturday Night Live. Apparently, the SNL format lends itself better to her cackle than the Rogan Experience would to her intelligence. Of course, it will never be ruled on, but her appearance amounts to a campaign spot, and SNL was obligated to offer equal time to candidate Donald Trump. Kamala Harris has had a short campaign since she stole the nomination from Joe Biden, but in over 100 days, she has held no press conferences where she took questions from reporters and was subjected to follow-up queries. Harris was even found to use a teleprompter at a Univision appearance, lending credence to her having the questions ahead of time and answers prepared.

Experts say that the public does not know Kamala Harris. The day after she became the candidate, 23% of those polled did not know who she was. She was and still is, the sitting VP and nearly a quarter of Americans do not know her. She opted for a controlled, under-the-radar campaign where she would benefit from the anti-Trump voters. She could not campaign on the economy, national security or sovereignty, our standing in the world, or the biggest concern of voters, inflation, because she was the creator of the issues for the last four years. She tells us she would do nothing differently and then has the solutions. She asks us to turn the page, but Democrats have been in charge for 12 of the last 16 years. She is not a new page but an epilogue to a sad story of the demise of America.

She should have done Rogan, but watching it would have been painful. I’m glad she did SNL. It says a lot about her campaign, which is a bad joke on America. Maybe this appearance is an interview for future employment.
