Good News for Conservatives

By Ray Cardello for June 9, 2021. Season 1 / Post 144

We cannot often look at the daily news and see three situations that can make a Conservative smile and have hope. I had that reaction this morning when I saw the report of the Mayoral race in McAllen, Texas, Supreme Court ruling on Green Cards for Illegal Immigrants, and Tanner Cross getting reinstated in Virginia.

McAllen, Texas, is a border city in the southeast region of the state. McAllen is 85% Latino and traditionally votes Democrat in most elections. McAllen just elected a new Mayor, and the fact that the winning candidate is Republican is sending shivers through the Democrat Party. Some may question why all the excitement over a Mayoral race. It is the town’s history, their typical voting record, and the fact that this election speaks to the failure of the Biden efforts on the Border that shine a light on it. This election may be a local race today, but in 2022 it might be House or Senate races. The Democrat hold on DC might be short-lived, and the clock is ticking towards a swing of the pendulum.

Our Supreme Court can rarely agree on the day of the week. When they agree 9-0 on an issue and the unanimous opinion is written by one of the more liberal Justices, people notice. The case involved the right of illegal immigrants to obtain Green Cards. You would think a decision on this case would be 6-3 at best. A 9-0 vote is a win for Conservatives and gives us hope that logic and good sense have a place in the SCOTUS.

In a unanimous ruling, the Supreme Court said that immigrants who were granted Temporary Protected Status but entered the United States illegally could not apply for Green Cards. Temporary Protected Status can be given to people from certain countries for humanitarian reasons due to natural disasters or armed conflict. When those protections are lifted, they are expected to return to their home country. Justice Kagan wrote the opinion for the Court.

And finally, Tanner Cross, a Christian teacher in an embattled progressive Virginia school district, had been put on leave after publicly refusing to refer to transgender students by their preferred pronouns.

“I’m a teacher, but I serve God first, and I will not affirm that a biological boy can be a girl and vice versa because it’s against my religion. It’s lying to a child, it’s abuse to a child, and it’s sinning against our God,” Tanner said.

The Court granted Tanner Cross’ request for a temporary injunction, saying the school district must allow him to return to his position and stop banning him from Loudoun County Public Schools property.

Judge James E. Plowman Jr. wrote that he granted the injunction because Cross’ rights to speech and religious liberty are central to the case.

In our current climate, you would have expected the Court to rule for the school district. We are pleasantly surprised to see the Court rule in favor of Free Speech and Religious Belief. It gives us hope. The Country may be waking up and it is not happy with the Woke Cancel Culture and the times; they may be changing…..Thank God.
