When a Politician Says, “Let’s be Honest”…

By Ray Cardello for February 15, 2026, Season 34 / Post 17

When a politician says, “Let’s be honest,” you’d better get the fact-checker fired up. When it is Maine’s Secretary of State uttering those words, you can rest assured that what is to follow is a bevy of lies. Shenna Bellows is the first woman to hold that position in Maine and has held it since 2021. She has done little in those 5 years to make women proud of her accomplishments.

Bellows posted this on her Facebook page this week:

Let’s be honest about what this is.

When I paused issuing ICE unmarked license plates and pushed back on Trump trying to nationalize elections, far-right politicians got angry. Now they want me out of the way.

I won’t be intimidated from upholding my duty to the Constitution.

Anybody who wants to be honest and has watched Bellows operate as Secretary would immediately notice two facets of her comment. One exposes the severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome that she shares with her boss, Governor Janet Mills. These two have shown a proclivity to take opposite sides on any issue involving Trump. The other is Bellow’s reference to the Constitution. One might question if Bellows lives under the same Constitution that the rest of us do, whether it is defending male athletes competing against females in violation of Title IX. Or whether she is facilitating the destination of Maine as a sanctuary state for minors seeking abortions or transgender care without parental consent. Or whether she is embellishing the facts on a petition to force a vote on Voter ID to distort and confuse the voters totally. Or maybe it is closing her eyes to the nearly 300 Chinese cartel-operated illegal marijuana grow houses contaminating the communities of central, rural Maine. No, I’m sorry, but Sheena Bellows has never read the Constitution that I keep a copy of in my computer bag.

We are also aware that Bellows is aware of non-citizens on the voter rolls and her resistance to surrender the rolls to the DOJ as requested. Driver’s licenses are being used as ID for voter registration, and there is no citizenship requirement to obtain a license. Bellow and Mills are well aware of what is happening here, and they are condoning illegal, non-citizens voting in state-sanctioned elections. Trump is not looking to nationalize elections, but it is easy to understand why Trump is acting to call out egregious actions by state officials to circumvent the voter laws.

Bellows is running for the governor’s seat that is being vacated by Janet Mills. Mills is serving her second term, which is the maximum number of terms allowed by Maine’s constitution. A Bellow’s administration would simply be a de facto third term for Janet Mills. There is no qualitative evidence that Janet Mills has had a positive impact on the state and its people. Whether it is the economy, the proliferation of illegals in the state, the number of homeless in the state, the increase in illegal pot growers, the tremendous increase in tax burden, or the sad decline in test score in Maine schools, Janet Mills has been a disaster for Maine, and a continuation of her policies under Bellows is not what Maine needs. That is just me being honest.
