Governor Janet Mills is used to getting her way. In a state that has abandoned common sense for the WOKE movement, Mills is protected by a Liberal legislature and court. The governor is able to pass absurd budgets, wasting the surplus she inherited for the budget deficit she will pass on. Like the Biden administration on the border, she opened Maine’s doors to thousands of illegals in the name of cheap labor. She has destroyed the affordable housing market with the same group. She has turned the state into an abortion and transgender sanctuary for the adolescents of the country. She has replaced coffee shops with pot shops and watched as hundreds of Maine communities became home to illegal pot farms and human/sex trafficking centers. She turned the other way as her brother made money financing these pot farms for the Chinese Cartel as Mainers saw their property values plummet because of their new unwanted neighbors. Governor Mills went too far and slipped on the banana peel when she challenged President Trump to a court fight with the federal government. Janet Mills may very well fall victim to the same arrogance that has garnered her the power she enjoys in Augusta. Janet Mills may dread the day she picked a fight with Donald Trump. Mills is out of her league.
Of all of the issues I have listed, the one that Janet Mills and Maine Democrats have chosen to key on is transgender rights and, specifically, the right for biological males to compete in female sports. This topic is viewed as an 80/20 in America, with 80% of the population agreeing that there is no place for biological males on female fields of competition or locker/restrooms. This is a no-win situation for the governor, and nobody can identify the motivation for the persistent support of transgender youths by the Democrats.
Governor Mill’s actions have placed future federal funds for Maine education in jeopardy because the state’s schools violate Title IX. This foolish action will cost the Maine Department of Education nearly $500M, putting all aspects of services for Maine students at risk. Some of Maine’s colleges and Universities are following Governor Mill’s lead and jeopardizing their federal aid.
Maine has filed suit against the federal government, but they should lose, and then the onus will be on Mills to swallow her pride, admit she was wrong, and reluctantly take the money. The transgender issue is not a winner for the states to buck the Executive Order of the President. Why Mills, or any other governor, would want to die on that hill is a conundrum. There are so few transgender athletes to insist they be allowed to play in girls sports, and you are angering 80% of the electorate.
At the same time, Maine is getting a massive amount of national attention since the Maine House censured Representative Laurel Libby (R-Auburn/Minot) for identifying a biological male who won the Girls State High School Pole-vault championship. The House has denied her reinstatement until she apologizes, which is about as likely as Mills and Trump having tea very soon in the Oval Office.
