Oh my, you could not have written a more sensational story than the real-life saga of Letitia James. Letitia James, the outspoken, Trump-hating attorney general of New York, is going to fall hard, very hard, and every Republican is going to cheer her fall. We had to look and listen to her for months as she dominated the news cycle as the woman who was going to bring down, bankrupt, and break Donald J. Trump. James is the woman who ran for the attorney general job on the sole premise that she was going to indict Trump, try him in a New York City courtroom, and ensure that he would never be able to operate a business in New York or occupy the White House ever again. She sat in the courtroom every day of the trial in a seat that gave her maximum exposure in every picture or video shot of Donald Trump. It is unusual for the Attorney General to attend a trial, but this was not your ordinary courtroom event. The trial of Donald Trump in New York City was a sham display orchestrated by Ms. James from, excuse the pun, trumped-up charges to a ludicrous fine, and she wanted to savor every moment. There was plenty of crime in New York to work on, but she had campaigned on keeping New Yorkers safe, albeit from the evil Donald Trump.
James won the case, although it is still in the appeal process and will likely be overturned on many grounds. However, that is not the end of the Letitia James saga. It is actually just the first act. She may find herself sitting in the very seat that Donald Trump did in very short order.
In a turn of events that Democrats will call retaliation and lawfare, two things they invented firsthand, Letitia may not be as squeaky clean as she would propose. What, you are shocked at that? After an investigation into her past financial activities, including the purchase of multiple properties, U.S. Federal Housing Finance Agency Director William Pulte cited “media reports” claiming James had falsely listed a home in Virginia as her principal residence, which he hypothesized was an effort to avoid the higher interest rates people often pay for mortgages on second homes. James has never lived at the house, and the property was misrepresented on the application as a four-unit when it is, in fact, a five-unit dwelling, which would have changed the classification and interest rate. Pulte has referred the case to United States Attorney General Pam Bondi.
Right on cue, James called the allegations against her “baseless.”
“It is nothing more than a headline, nothing more than retaliation against all the actions I have taken successfully against Donald Trump,” she said Wednesday in an interview on the New York cable news station NY1.
In another strange twist to the story, on two separate mortgage applications, Letitia James indicated that her father was her husband, further perpetuating the fraud involved in her actions. This is a perfect example of the type of fraud she fabricated in the Trump trial, but that she actually committed, and there is a paper trail to prove.
Like Fannie Willis in Georgia, before her, Letitia James is going to fall on the same sword she so valiantly swung at Donald Trump in an attempt to bring him down. These women who liked to spout the law and talked about how no one, no matter how rich and powerful, was above it forgot that they were not exempt either. I doubt he will do it, for it would be classless and in poor judgment, but I wish Trump took the seat formerly occupied by James in that New York courtroom on the day her trial starts and her career ends. Revenge, like irony, is so sweet.
