Maine Senator Angus King (I-ME) was enjoying a conversation with Joe Scarborough of MSNOW this morning as they both took shots at President Trump and ICE. I have never seen King on FOX NEWS, and his grasp of the truth and his symmetry with Morning Joe may explain why. He also had glowing comments to make about the town of Biddeford, which shows that truth and reality are not aligned with the junior Senator.
The two were discussing the unfortunate shooting and death of a man in Biddeford as a result of an interaction with ICE officers, and details are minimal at this time. Though they both admitted the lack of details at this time, the two went on to spin a “fact-filled” narrative of how they saw the incident unfold. I don’t profess to know any more about the incident than what I read on various news reports, but neither do Joe and Angus, and that is the problem. Here are some of the statements they made without any facts to substantiate them. King started by questioning why ICE was in Biddeford in the first place. He called it a lovely small community that should not be on the ICE radar. The facts are that Biddeford has the highest violent crime rate in the state, and is considered by many native Mainers to be a lost city on par with Lewiston. He went on to classify the victim as a fine family man and father. We know little about this man except that he was from Colombia, was here on a work permit, and was leaving the residence of an individual under ICE surveillance. They said he was driving from the scene at a slow rate of speed and posed no danger to the public. Initial reports from ICE were that he was avoiding the commands of ICE to stop and had weaponized his vehicle. The agents determined that he posed a direct threat to the public and fired at him. Scarborough and King were creating a story on the fly, which is totally irresponsible and dangerous to the public, but what did I expect when I tuned into the channel?
King went on to elaborate on how ICE and Trump have no concern for public safety and are, of course, a threat to Democracy. These comments come a week after the conclusion of the Graham Platner saga, in which Democrats were content and eager to support Platner, who had a list of actions on his resume that showed a lack of decency. It was only after a claim of rape by one of Platner’s former girlfriends and his dropping behind Susan Collins in recent polls that he was forced to withdraw from the race. To his credit, King never supported Platner, but he also never denounced the candidate, even as the negative facts mounted.
People watching this program and doing no other research will already condemn ICE as acting outside the law. King said that the FBI could not be trusted to investigate the shooting, but local and state agencies had already been included in the investigation. This again is a perfect example of how a lack of knowledge by an ignorant public, or a barrage of misinformation by a slanted “news” network, is dangerous to our future. King took shots at Republicans at a time when the Democrats are welcoming Socialists and Communists into their Party. King is an Independent but caucuses with the Democrats. It is difficult to rationalize Scarborough ever being a Republican.
Author’s Note: Graphics created by Grok AI. Grok’s comments about the images: his landscape quietly does the work your article calls for. It presents Biddeford as it actually sits: a river town with real industrial history and working-class roots, not the idealized “lovely small community” described on the broadcast. The mill buildings and riverfront give visual weight to the point that this is a place with layers—scenic on the surface, but carrying the complexities of any former mill city in Maine.
